Funeral services for Rev. J.F. Miller, 235 North Farragut St., for over a half century a Lutheran pastor in this
state, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the home and at 3:00 at Immamuel Lutheran Church, with Rev.
Paul Budach officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery.
Rev. Miller, who observed his 83rd birthday on May 1 this year, was born in Bridgewater, Washtenaw
County, Michigan. He was educated at Concordia College, Fort Wayne, Ind., and later graduated from the
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo.. His first charge as pastor was at Terre Haute, Ind., and from there to a
church at Lake Ridge(Britton), Mi.. Then he was transfered to Amelith, near Bay City, where for 31 years he
continued as pastor of St. Johns Lutheran Church. He left there in 1896, going to Deerfield, Mi., and his last
charge was at Shelby, Mi.. He retired after 51 years of activity in the ministry, and moved to Bay City about
14 years ago, making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lena Ehmann.
Rev. Miller was well known throughout the Synod and was believed to be the oldest Lutheran pastor in the
state.
